Plan your ownSomeone typed “Nocatee FL → cool family overland weekend this fall” — and got this. Every drive time is real routing; every stop is a real place.
The real route — the driven spine and the gravel climb from actual road geometry, with the plan's stops numbered in order.
Camp at Lake Conasauga, run the gravel to get there, and cash in fall — foliage at peak, apples in the orchards. One plan, driveway to summit.
Honest split: an overland trip from the coast is mostly the drive to the dirt. HipTrip plans both halves — the family highway haul and the overland payoff — timed separately, so you know what the weekend actually is before you commit.
Leave early afternoon. Every pull is capped at ~1.6 hours — the stretch clock, and it's for everyone in the car, not just the kids.
Real meal and a run-around before the middle stretch. Fuel up here.
The clean-bathroom mecca: pee, snacks, fuel, everybody resets. Dinner, pee, fuel — the evening reset.

Up into the foothills as the light goes gold.
HipTrip call: Don't run the gravel to the lake after dark on night one — it's steep, narrow and rough. Sleep low, hit the dirt fresh in daylight.
Top off everything here. This is the gateway — no fuel, no water, no store past Eton, GA.
Pavement ends a few miles in, then steep, winding, bumpy gravel up the mountain. Aired-down and easy; a family SUV/4×4 does it fine in daylight. This is the overland.
Georgia's highest lake (3,150 ft, 17 acres). 30-site forest campground: gravel pad, fire ring + grill, picnic table, flush toilets (no showers). Set up, then it's yours.
Swim or paddle the lake, walk the easy Songbird Trail, or hike up to the Grassy Mountain fire tower for the big overlook.
10–15° cooler than the valley. Pack layers; the kids will actually sleep.
Slow roll back down the gravel. Fuel the moment you hit pavement.
Apple Pickin' Jubilee: u-pick, pig races, wagon rides, corn maze. Why you came in the fall.
Feed the kids in Ellijay, GA (Ellijay Wood Fired Pizza) before the drive — full bellies for the haul.
Lands in the lunch window — grab real food here. The clean-bathroom mecca: pee, snacks, fuel, everybody resets.

If anyone's antsy sooner, Joseph O. Striska Official Florida Welcome Center splits this leg.
Home Sunday night — tired, sun-worn, and already asking when the next one is.
