Plan your own

Someone typed Nocatee FL → cool family overland weekend this fall, with the dog — and got this. Every drive time is real routing; every stop is a real place.

The real route — the driven spine and the gravel climb from actual road geometry, with the plan's stops numbered in order.

The family overland weekend

📍 Nocatee, FL──────▶⛰️ Lake Conasauga

Camp at Lake Conasauga, run the gravel to get there, and cash in fall — foliage at peak, apples in the orchards. One plan, driveway to summit.

The trip
3 days
2 nights · Fri–Sun
Drive time
~16.5 h
round-trip · a stop every ~1.5–2 h
Trail / gravel
~3 h
the overland part
Camp elevation
3,150 ft
10–15° cooler
🚙 84% pavement🥾 16% trail

Honest split: an overland trip from the coast is mostly the drive to the dirt. HipTrip plans both halves — the family highway haul and the overland payoff — timed separately, so you know what the weekend actually is before you commit.

What HipTrip flags for this one

  • The stretch clock (~1.5–2 hr): Every driving leg is capped for the whole crew — adults pee every 1.5–2 hrs too; this was never a kids-only rule. A stop to pee, fuel, snack and stretch is baked in, not optional; kids, dogs, or a pregnant passenger just tighten it further. The engine never routes a stopless 4-hour haul.
  • Fuel/water gauntlet: Eton, GA is the last stop. Nothing on the mountain — top off fuel, water and ice before the gravel.
  • Daylight-only gravel: The gravel to the lake is rough and steep — stage in the valley so you climb it fresh in daylight.
  • No cell past the ridge: No cell past the ridge — download the route offline and tell someone the plan. HipTrip hands the pins to your GPS before you lose signal.
  • Pack for 3,150 ft: Nights at 3,150 ft run 10–15° cooler than home. Layers, real sleeping bags, a warm layer for the kids.
  • Fall timing: Foliage peaks mid-to-late October up here, and the orchards run u-pick through October — line the weekend up with both.

🐾 Bringing the dog? One toggle re-plans the trip

HipTrip re-checks every stop, camp and activity for dog-friendliness and swaps what doesn't work — this didn't just add a note, it changed the plan.

  • Stops already fit: The stretch clock is her potty clock too — pack a collapsible water bowl, and never leave her in the car at a food stop.
  • Night 1: Fort Mountain State Park allows leashed dogs in the campground.
  • At the lake: Leashed dogs welcome at camp and on the trails — but NOT in the swim area. Black-bear country: leash on, dog food locked up with yours at night.
  • Payoff swap: HipTrip routes you to Mercier Orchards — Dog-friendly cider deck + pond walk, water provided. — instead of Hillcrest Orchards (Petting farm + livestock — no dogs allowed.). Same payoff, dog included.
